The Dyke March -
Saturday, June 29

OK, so we got here a bit late. My fault. Just couldn't
get it in gear after the brunch, then we forgot to leave the key for Shari, then I just
HAD to go into Tower to buy some issues of Roadshow that had Lijah photos....
Anyway, by the time we got to the prearranged dinner, people were finishing, so by the
time *we* finished, they had already gone to the kickoff point. So now here *we* are, but
where are they? The crowd is big, and since it's only about half an hour until March time,
the porta potty lines are HUGE. We try calling Shari, but I can't get her phone to ring.
See photo below at far right--there is LOTS of this sort of thing going on! "Where
*are* you?" |

OK, so lots of milling about and looking confused.
It's time to go, isn't it? The dancing girls are all ready. The group in the middle is
obviously planning to spectate only. The beginning of this march gives new meaning to the
word "chaos." Ever see several thousand women attempt to occupy the exact same
spot at the same time? Yes, we all want to be in the FRONT of the march, for some reason.
Luckily, things straighten themselves out within a couple of blocks, and we even find our
friends. This march is all about anarchy! No rules, very little game plan, no fancy floats
or corporate sponsors or cute costumes. Freedom, baby. |

I had intended to photograph the march, not be part of
it! So much for Plan A. Can't take photos of the march from the MIDDLE of the march. Must
take photos of spectators instead! |

OK, so you can take a *few* photos of the March itself while you're
in it. Above right is the pink triangle on Twin Peaks--a very cool sight as we came around
that corner. Friends and fellow marchers above left and left, and end of the March at
right. |
