The backstory: In "Everything is
Illuminated," Jonathan Safran Foer's improbably funny 2002
pseudo-autobiographical bestseller, Jonathan travels to Ukraine to find the
woman who may have saved his grandather from the Nazis.
Actor Liev Schreiber (The Manchurian Candidate) was
determined to make a movie out of the novel, writing the screenplay and
directing it himself. Elijah Wood stars as Jonathan and Gogol Bordello
frontman-turned-actor Eugene Hutz plays Jonathan's Ukranian guide, Alex.
Photographer Susanna Howe visits the Prague set one day in August. |
